Playing Cards Museum
This is the only museum of its kind in France, but the story of playing cards is a universal one, involving people all over the world. The original lay-out of the museum’s exhibition allows the story of playing cards to be followed through time (from the XVth to the XXth century), different cultures (of East and West), the decorative arts, manufacturing techniques, the world of gambling, and the development of artistic design. Another gallery traces the history of the town of Issy-les-Moulineaux and its heritage: the château of the Princes de Conti, the early days of aviation, and the links of certain artists (including Rodin, Matisse and Dubuffet) with the town.Winner of the 1999 European Prize for Museums.
