Musée Rodin Meudon
Musée Rodin Meudon 19 avenue Auguste Rodin 92190 MEUDON
Rodin Museum CLOSED - UNDER REFURBISHMENT
In 1895, the already famous Rodin and his wife Rose Beuret left their Paris home and moved to Meudon Val Fleury. Rodin took to his new estate with enthusiasm and welcomed friends and celebrated visitors. The nation took possession of the villa, the Villa des Brillants, on his death in November 1917 and established a museum devoted to the master’s sketches and preliminary carvings. The villa and studio were re-furbished in accordance with old photographs: furniture, paintings, display cabinets full of antiques and other items were placed back in their former positions. Next door, the storeroom museum is now an exhibition centre for the various plaster preliminary studies for the artist’s great works, such as Balzac, Victor Hugo, the Burghers of Calais and other masterpieces, as well as a storeroom for the thousands of plaster casts and moulds. In front of the building is the tomb of Rodin and his wife, surmounted by the Thinker.
